Choose a repository and branch
After installing the GitHub App, pick the repository and target branch Acrosite commits to, then save your GitHub Setup.
After you install the Acrosite GitHub App, you finish GitHub Setup by choosing the repository and the branch Acrosite commits to. This guide covers that step.
Who this is for
Developers, and Owners or Admins completing a project's GitHub Setup.
Before you start
- You have installed the Acrosite GitHub App and granted it access to the repository. See Connect GitHub.
- You know which branch Acrosite should commit to, such as
main.
Choose the repository and branch
On the project's GitHub Setup page, under Repository Setup:
- Choose the Repository from the list of repositories you granted the App access to. Each option shows the repository and its default branch.
- Choose the Target Branch Acrosite will commit content to. Most teams use their production branch; protected branches are labelled so you can avoid them.
- Choose Save GitHub Setup.
When saved, the project's GitHub status reads Connected, and the setup panel shows your selected repository and target branch.
package.json) — this is read-only and helps confirm the connection. What happens next
With a repository and branch saved, configure how your site redeploys — see Configure a deployment trigger. Acrosite will commit published content to this repository on this branch.
Change or disconnect the repository
To point the project at a different repository or branch, an Owner or Admin chooses Disconnect on the GitHub Setup page. Acrosite explains the impact, then asks you to confirm it's you with a passkey or authenticator app.
- Publishing stops for the project until a repository is connected again.
- Files already in the repository stay there, and drafts, media, and history stay in Acrosite.
- Scheduled items fail at their scheduled time unless you connect a repository first, so reconnect promptly or cancel those schedules.
- The GitHub App stays installed, so the Repository Setup form returns right away for choosing the repository and branch again.
Disconnecting waits while anything is publishing.
Troubleshooting
- My repository is not listed. The App was not granted access to it. Add the repository in your GitHub installation settings, then refresh the list in Acrosite.
- My branch is protected. Protected branches can block direct commits. Point Acrosite at a writable branch, or adjust the branch protection rules.
