Add Custom Fields

Add structured fields — text, number, date, select, image, and more — to a content type so every item captures the same details.

GuideFor Owners, Admins, EditorsUpdated June 7, 2026

Custom Fields are the structured fields on a content type. They make sure every item captures the same details in the same shape — a date, a category, a hero image, a rating. This guide adds fields to a content type.

Who this is for

Workspace Owners, Admins, and Editors who design a project's content structure.

Before you start

  • You have a Custom Content Type (or you want to add fields to Posts or Pages).
  • You know which details each item should capture.

Add a field

  1. Open your project and go to Content, then open the content type you want to add fields to.
  2. Choose to add a new field.
  3. Enter a Field Label — the name shown in the editor, such as Client name.
  4. Choose a Field Type (see the list below).
  5. Add Help Text and a Placeholder *(optional)* to guide whoever fills it in.
  6. Mark the field Required if every item must have it.
  7. Set a Default Value if it helps, and a Field Status of Active or Archived.
  8. Save the field.

For Select and Multi-select fields, you also add the list of options; Acrosite generates a stable value for each option you enter.

Field types

Acrosite offers these field types:

  • Text — a single line of text.
  • Long Text — a multi-line text area.
  • Number — a numeric value.
  • Boolean — an on/off toggle.
  • Date — a calendar date.
  • URL — a web address.
  • Email — an email address.
  • Select — choose one option from a list you define.
  • Multi-select — choose several options from a list you define.
  • Image — an image chosen from your Media Library.
Note
When you create or edit a content item, its Custom Fields appear in the editor. Fill them in alongside the title, body, and SEO details.

What happens next

Custom Field values are saved with each content item and written into the item's Markdown frontmatter when it publishes, so your site's templates can read them.

Developer note
Field values are serialised into the published file's frontmatter using each field's key. Build your site templates to read those frontmatter keys.

Troubleshooting

  • A field is not showing in the editor. Make sure its Field Status is Active, not Archived, and that you are editing an item of the right content type.
  • I need to remove a field. Archive the field so existing items keep their data, rather than losing values.
  • Select options changed unexpectedly. Each option keeps a stable value once created; edit labels carefully so existing items still match their saved values.
